Hello fellow Kiwanians!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our regular meeting scheduled for:
Thursday Oct 26 th 2017 12:00 Noon at the Court house grill in Plymouth.
Jeff Sirabian will be taking the helm again as President John Filios conquers Herzegovina.
Speaker this week will be Kevin Lane, Principal at Starkweather Academy, PCCS
See more about Starkweather at:
Weather is going to be ................. who cares what the weather is going to be? - It's Kiwanis time.
Why don't you bring a guest?
So after shepherd's pie last week - I have no idea what's on the menu this week. What I can guarantee is there will be some of that wonderful Court house bread and salad.
A couple of reminders for this week:
Holiday Party 2017.
A note from Mark Riegal regarding the upcoming Holiday Party:
"save the date, it's November 30th, at the Italian American Club in Livonia, on Five mile. Mark says he will need a FIRM commitment and $50 pp, by November 16".
NEW VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
There is still time to sign up for Trunk or Treat.
Greg Ash, Rick Schubatis
First Step, the domestic abuse shelter, will be holding a secure, on-site Halloween event called "Trunk or Treat" on Saturday, October 28th. We need Kiwanis members to decorate their trunk or hatch area, and be willing to hand out candy to the costumed kids. Your candy purchases will be reimbursed by Youth Services. This should be a fun and easy event; you'll pick up a meeting attendance point as well! Please sign up on the calendar of events by October 26th, as we need to inform First Step of the number and names of the participants. 5-10 people would be great!
So sign on in and sign up for this great opportunity to serve.
We also had a great event 10/16/2017 at the Ronald McDonald house at Mott's children's hospital Ann Arbor
Thank you to Bill and Barb Lawton, Christi Valli and Jim Eldridge for all the great work you did at that event.
It's members like you and all the others who have worked this event, that have made such a difference in these families lives.
On a sad note -
Condolences also go out to all the Michigan Fans -
With the score: Penn State: 6,750 - - Michigan: 10
I hear the wagons circling around Harbaugh.
MEMBER OF THE WEEK
This week's member of the week is
Karen is a relatively new member to the club joining in February of 2016. Since then, she has jumped in with both feet and has been very active participating in many events.
This year she has taken over the reigns from Michael Siegrist and is our link to the Key club at PCCS.
Her role in that position is to assist and guide the Key Club leadership and work with their 300 plus membership of volunteers.
Karen rode "shot gun" with Debbie Gulledge, her Kiwanis sponsor, on one of the food and drink carts at our recent golf outing. Last December she rang bells for the Salvation Army and has numerous events with the Key Club kids to her credit.
One thing for sure is that she is always a happy, smiling face to members old and new at our Thursday lunch meetings.
Karen lives in Canton with her husband and 1 1/2- year-old daughter Kara and in her spare time - is an account executive for Comcast Spotlight - a TV and digital video advertising outlet in the Plymouth / Canton market.
Recently when I asked her what drew her to C.P. Kiwanis -
She responded by saying - "My desire to be part of a great community service group like Kiwanis drew me in - the friends and the relationships I have made since have kept me here!
Thank you, Karen, for all you do.
Now you know a little more about Karen - don't be a stranger at lunch.
Help us spread the great word to others about
The Kiwanis club of Colonial Plymouth
and don't forget to bring a friend along.
